SHIATSU MASSAGE
Shiatsu is a form of physiotherapy that originated in Japan and has its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Shiatsu is a less aggressive form of physiotherapy that works on the whole body rather than concentrating on the symptom, as in most western practices. The session is carried out on a futon on the floor, but can also be carried out on a couch or chair depending on the receiver’s needs. The receiver remains fully clothed and no oils are used. Light comfortable clothing, such as trousers or jogging bottoms, is recommended.
Pressure is applied to certain points along meridian channels on the body using the palms, fingers and thumbs. Limbs and joints may be stretched or rotated to aid movement and relieve tension. This is designed to help the natural flow of Ki, in turn helping the body’s natural healing process.
